Satellite communications provider Speedcast has teamed up with HudsonCyber to provide cyber security to maritime companies as online threats and recovery costs rise
CyberInsights is a new tailored platform to help shipowners mitigate cyber threats and become compliant with new international cyber security regulations. It integrates industry cyber-security standards, frameworks and standardised practices. This solution also aligns with IMO’s 2021 Guidelines on Maritime Cyber Risk Management.
Speedcast vice president for product management Jeffrey Irwin said maritime companies need to improve their cyber security as threats are rising, as are the resulting costs.
“According to Cybersecurity Ventures, cyber crime damages will reach US$10.5Tn annually by 2025, and it is our ongoing goal to continue enhancing our cyber-security capabilities to protect our customers,” Mr Irwin said.
CyberInsights is a risk management and assessment service to allow decision makers to evaluate their current cyber-security protection quickly and cost effectively.
It is built on Amazon Web Services and integrates with cyber-security standards as described in the US National Institute of Standards and Technology cyber-security framework, the Center for Internet Security’s Critical Controls, and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO)’s ISO 27001 standard.
“As part of Speedcast’s cyber-security product suite, CyberInsights is a robust solution that will strengthen our customers’ cyber-security capabilities,” said Mr Irwin.
“It will drive continuous improvements by identifying and developing a tailored cyber-security programme in a timely and cost-effective manner, compared with hiring a traditional consulting firm,” he added.
CyberInsights facilitates real-time benchmarking and monitoring that tracks the progress of a company’s actions to mitigate cyber risk.
HudsonCyber parent company, HudsonAnalytix’s chief executive Cynthia Hudson said these solutions are important because threats against information and operational systems are increasing.
“Our integrated approach offers Speedcast’s customers a powerful tool for implementing and sustaining their cyber-security strategy, helping them to mitigate damages arising from cyber threats,” Ms Hudson said.
