Mingyang Smart Energy in China has confirmed OceanX – the world’s largest single capacity floating wind platform – has departed from Guangzhou for the Qingzhou IV offshore windfarm in Yangjiang, Guangdong province
The company said the tow of the OceanX on its 191 nautical mile journey to the offshore windfarm will take approximately 72 hours. It left Guangzhou on 11 August 2024.
The dual-rotor OceanX floater has two 8.3-MW MySE8.3-180 turbines installed on it and a total capacity of 16.6 MW.
The V-shaped OceanX platform was launched recently from Guangzhou and is designed to optimise wind capture and efficiency in deep water.
Constructed using high-performance concrete, the floater is a cable-stayed system designed for enhanced structural efficiency and adaptability.
It is a single-point mooring design Mingyang Smart Energy says is designed “to ensure maximum stability and safety even in extreme typhoon conditions.”
