Equipped with battery packs and a DC grid to reduce energy consumption, Capital Offshore’s newbuild PSVs will be deployed to markets that need ’more technologically advanced vessels’
Greek owner Capital Offshore will take delivery of its first newbuild platform supply vessels, built in China, in 2026.
Once commissioned and delivered, these vessels will be mobilised to Australia, the North Sea, Brazil and Guyana-Suriname, said Capital Offshore chief commercial officer Gerry Ventouris.
During a video interview on the sidelines of Riviera’s Annual Offshore Support Journal Conference, in London, Mr Ventouris disclosed that Capital intends to operate these technically sophisticated vessels in markets where charterers want modern ships at sensible prices.
“We are concentrating on markets that want more technologically advanced vessels,” he said.
“We are looking at Australia, at the North Sea market, and we are looking at Brazil,” said Mr Ventouris.
“We are also looking at the Suriname-Guyana market, but we have not yet managed to get in with the charterers. But it is another market we will look at.”
These vessels will feature energy-saving technologies, including battery packs, DC grids, and thrusters powered by permanent magnet motors.
“On 10 of our vessels, we will have two batteries of 1,000 kWh each and an electric DC grid,” said Mr Ventouris. “For operations on offshore vessels, especially on DP, where you can have sudden surges of power to the thrusters, the DC grid has a much better reaction to this than AC.”
