The European tug owner will soon add a new azimuth stern drive vessel to its fleet supporting ships in Baltic ports
Fairplay Towage’s latest newbuild azimuth stern drive (ASD) tugboat has completed sea trials and is on its way to Northern Europe to commence operations in the Baltic area.
Fairplay-97, has been built by Damen at a shipyard in Vietnam and completed sea trials in mid-January.
According to Fairplay Towage, this 28-m tug has a bollard pull of over 83 tonnes and will join the fleet during Q1 2025. “We are looking forward to seeing Fairplay-97 in action soon,” the German tug owner said.
Fairplay Towage’s chartering manager for Poland, Tomasz Borowski, said the company is waiting for its arrival after sea trials.
Damen Song Cam shipyard built Fairplay-97 to Damen’s ASD Tug 2813 design, which the builder said “focuses on the combined delivery of safety and efficiency” with “extra stability coming courtesy of a wide beam and the relatively low position of the ergonomic wheelhouse.”
These tugs have accommodation for 10 crew and the capacity to store 89 m3 of fuel, a draught of 6 m and top speed of 13 knots. This comes from two main diesel engines, compliant with IMO Tier III emissions standards, driving two azimuth thrusters.
For Fairplay-97, Damen added a FiFi1-class fire-fighting system and a large towage winch on the forward deck.
