A Turkish shipbuilder has launched a new escort tug for a Greek owner to modernise its fleet and enhance ship handling at a Greek terminal
Med Marine launched ER130 at its Eregli Shipyard just two months after signing the newbuilding contract with the owner, Spanopoulos Group subsidiary Igmar.
This 28-m vessel was built as a MED-A2875 series tug to Robert Allan Ltd’s RAstar 2800 design, with 75 tonnes of bollard pull and FiFi1 class off-ship fire-fighting system ready to assist ships in terminals in Greece.
It has a beam of 13 m, a hull depth of around 5 m, a draught of 6 m, a top speed of 12 knots and accommodation for up to 10 crew.
This multipurpose tug will work off a forward winch and an aft winch for ship handling, towing, pushing and mooring, and will be equipped with an aft towing hook.
Igmar signed the construction contract with Med Marine on 17 May, it was launched 13 July and is scheduled for delivery in Greece in September 2024.
This is another example of Greek shipowners ordering tugs from Turkish builders to modernise their fleets.
