Speaking at the International Bulk Shipping Conference held at the headquarters of law firm Stephenson Harwood, Port of Roenne chief business officer bulk Maja Felicia Bendtsen and Global Maritime Forum senior programme lead first movers Marieke Beckmann discussed the potential for Green Corridors in the dry bulk shipping industry as an alternative to traditional fuel bunkering methods
Ms Bendtsen shed light on the Port of Roenne’s endeavor to transition into a green economy, with a particular focus on offshore wind installation projects and adopting sustainable fuels for shipping. The driving force behind this transition and the port’s aim to become a hub for alternative fuel bunkering are abundantly clear.
In this video, Ms Bendtsen shares her perspective on decarbonisation in the shipping industry and highlights the challenges faced in implementing a variety of fuels in ports with limited space, emphasising the need for preparation and collaboration among the various actors in the value chain.
Ms Bendtsen and Ms Beckmann also discuss the importance of energy efficiency and operational considerations, such as just-in-time arrival, acknowledge the transition to alternative fuels is not a straightforward process, and call for a future with multiple fuel options.
The conversation also touches on the constraints imposed by port locations near urban areas, and the potential impact on local communities in terms of discussions and decision-making processes.
The International Bulk Shipping Conference programme focused on market dynamics, challenges and opportunities related to shipping dry bulk materials, with sessions covering topics such as global trends and forecasts, technological advancements, sustainable shipping practices and environmental regulations, fleet management and optimisation, ports and terminal developments, financing and investment opportunities, and future growth and diversification.
Bringing together a wealth of experience, valuable insights and an unrivalled passion for the industry, an advisory panel played a significant role in shaping the conference agenda.
Leading market experts explored the opportunities and challenges and will examine the demand for bulk shipping over the next few years; the implications for the industry as a whole; and how to build a future-proof bulk carrier with considerations for capacity, operational efficiency and lower carbon emissions.
