Caterpillar Marine global marine technology steward Marinus Jansen explains how owners can use low-carbon fuels to cut emissions
Caterpillar Marine global marine technology steward Marinus Jansen, speaking at Riviera Maritime Media’s International Tug & Salvage Convention 2022, offers an overview of the options available to tug owners who need to reduce emissions.
Mr Jansen says tug owners are on a sustainability journey along with the rest of the industry and need to consider which solutions are most readily available in regions where they operate, as part of their decision-making calculus. In other words, tug owners should be looking at what fuels and other power sources they can feasibly access for their vessels.
Mr Jansen notes Caterpillar is developing design services to help owners who need to find cost-effective ways to reduce emissions and the business caters to owners looking to find emissions (and cost) savings across a fleet or on individual vessels. Fuels and technologies up for consideration could include options such as biofuel, methanol and battery-hybrid propulsion.
Riviera Maritime Media will be holding the first Maritime Decarbonisation Conference, Asia in Singapore, 29-30 November 2022. Use this link for more details and to register for this conference
