The OS35 bulk carrier wreck was removed from the sea outside of the Port of Gibraltar
Koole Contractors lifted the wreck on to its semi-submersible barge Fjord as planned. It said this was a “significant accomplishment” for the project.
The sunken ship was cut in two at a point which avoided the oil tanks. The bow was hoisted using chains, while the stern was refloated. Both sections were loaded on to Fjord with the support of tugs, multi cats, workboats and crane barges.
Koole thanked its subcontractors and other stakeholders for their valuable assistance and support during this work. However, removal work is ongoing in the area of the wreck as debris is being lifted and the marine environment is being cleaned up.
