Owners of offshore support vessels (OSVs) operating in southeast Asia need to invest in their fleets to support the increasing demand for offshore services
Malaysia is a particularly strong market for OSVs and will need renewed fleets to ensure safe and efficient platform supply, rig moves, anchor handling and diving support.
Nam Cheong chief executive Leong Seng Keat describes why Malaysia is an active market for offshore support vessels.
With around 230 vessels operating in the country, it is one of the top markets in Asia for OSVs and has long-term prospects for the future. But vessels operating in Malaysia are ageing, with the majority more than 10 years old. There is a need for newbuilds, says Mr Keat during an interview at Riviera Maritime Media’s Offshore Support Journal, Asia Conference in Singapore in September 2023.
Mr Keat discusses the latest trends in onboard technology, including digitalisation, hybrid propulsion and energy storage systems.
