Second pusher tug launched for Amazon transport

HB Mapará will join HB Dourada, launched in July, in transporting cargo along the north channel of the Amazon River from 2023.

These 46-m shallow-draught pusher tugs are being outfitted and completed after their launches, and will undergo sea trials to be ready for transport to Brazil on a heavy-lift ship Q4 2022.

Built to Robert Allan’s RApide 4600 design, the tugs have diesel-electric propulsion, including three Wärtsilä 20 engines.

HB Mapará was launched September 2022 from a mobile drydock with assistance from three harbour tugs.
