Speaking at the International Bulk Shipping Conference held at the headquarters of law firm Stephenson Harwood, Lookout Maritime chief executive officer Martin Crawford-Brunt explains why there is a need to explain the impact of CII outside the immediate participants in shipping
In this video interview, Mr Crawford-Brunt, discusses how he is using his extensive 25-year experience in the industry to educate others about the impact of decarbonisation regulations.
With a background in both class and the commercial sector, he emphasises the importance of facilitating meaningful conversations between cargo interests and shipowners.
Mr Crawford-Brunt highlights the need for clear communication in the maritime industry, as language barriers often hinder understanding.
Alongside this, Lookout Maritime helps shipowners to understand the needs of cargo markets for effective marketing strategies. Mr Crawford-Brunt acknowledges the challenges posed by increasingly complex regulations, particularly in the context of decarbonisation goals and emphasises regulations should not be the end of the story, as market response also play a crucial role.
Mr Crawford-Brunt points out the significance of the carbon intensity indicator and its potential impact on shipowners and argues against compartmentalising regulations and the market as separate entities, emphasising the need for a holistic approach.
He concludes by highlighting the importance of understanding the market response to regulations, as relying solely on regulations for decarbonisation may not be sufficient.
The International Bulk Shipping Conference programme focused on market dynamics, challenges and opportunities related to shipping dry bulk materials, with sessions covering topics such as global trends and forecasts, technological advancements, sustainable shipping practices and environmental regulations, fleet management and optimisation, ports and terminal developments, financing and investment opportunities, and future growth and diversification.
