At the International Chemical & Product Tanker Conference in London 23-24 April 2024, Odfjell Tankers will be presented with the Commitment to Excellence Award 2024 – Chemical Tankers, in honour of the achievements the company has made
The Award is presented to an individual or entity, who in the opinion of the Riviera editorial team, has made a contribution of outstanding significance to the international chemical tanker industry.
Notable among the achievements is the retrofit installation of bound4blue’s eSAIL system on Bow Orion, one of the company’s chemical carriers. The bound4blue installation is a state-of-the-art wind-assisted propulsion known as a suction sail. By increasing the use of wind energy to propel vessels, this solution offers a substantial reduction in a vessel’s carbon footprint.
Odfjell’s other commitment to decarbonisation initiatives are evident in its 51% improved carbon intensity since 2008, with the integration of bound4blue’s eSAIL system marking yet another significant milestone for the company’s fleet in achieving remarkable energy efficiency.
Odfjell Tankers has been exploring sail technologies as a potential energy-efficiency measure for its fleet since 2020, and undertook a next-step by collaborating with bound4blue to implement its pioneering eSAIL system on one its chemical tankers.
Odfjell Tankers believes this technology holds immense potential in reducing emissions by harvesting onboard energy and converting it directly into forward thrust.
The selection of bound4blue as its collaborator was based on an indepth study conducted by SSPA, which evaluated various wind-assisted propulsion systems for the Odfjell fleet.
Odfjell Tankers has also implemented a system to allocate the CO2 footprint of cargo to charterers as a basis for the Emissions Trading System (ETS), and in this way, is incentivising providers with lower CO2 tax implications.
Join in the celebrations and register now to attend the International Chemical & Product Tanker Conference 23-24 April 2024.
