Introducing Riviera’s Chemical & Product Tanker Conference
Riviera Maritime Media’s first Chemical & Product Tanker Conference takes place in April in London.
The event is being organised in response to market demand for a focused chemical and product tanker conference in London and is a natural complement to Riviera’s well-established annual Tanker Shipping & Trade Conference, which will again take place in November.
Programme development has been led by Riviera’s executive editor Edwin Lampert and Tanker Shipping & Trade brand manager Paul Dowling, and reflects wide consultation and engagement with the industry.
Premiere event to attract a premier gathering
Vessel operators, charterers, regulators, class and the supply chain will gather to benchmark industry knowledge, build business relationships and gain a competitive edge in all of the aspects that make for successful and sustainable chemical and product tanker operations.
The conference programme is designed to bring clarity to the fast-changing chemical and product tanker trades which are being defined by novel challenges and novel opportunities. For this reason we are theming the 2022 conference around New rules. New routes. New technologies. New fuels. New infrastructure. New ship designs.
Our eight sessions across two days cover the following areas:
- Chemical and product tanker shipping, trade and markets
- Regulations and derisking decarbonisation strategies
- Eco-friendly designs, emissions and environment in focus
- New technologies, new fuels, new infrastructure and new ship designs
- Tank coating, cleaning and safe carriage of chemical carriers
- Sire 2.0 is here: the implications for vetting and inspections
- Commercial advantages and operational considerations when switching product tanker cargoes
- What is going on in chemical and product tanker company boardrooms
Networking and industry leadership
Our programme allows for significant networking including meeting, renewing and making new industry contacts. Our exhibition is the ideal forum to market products and services to the industry’s decision makers.
Two awards will be made at this year’s Chemical & Product Tanker Conference
Chemical & Product Tanker Industry Leader 2021/2022
The industry leader award recognises an individual that exemplifies outstanding leadership and sets industry standards in the chemical and/or product tanker shipping and trade.
Chemical & Product Tanker Lifetime Achievement Award Leader 2021/2022
Awarded to an individual who has made a contribution of outstanding significance to chemical and/or product tanker shipping and trade during their lifetime.

SESSION 4: NEW TECHNOLOGIES, NEW FUELS, NEW INFRASTRUCTURE AND NEW SHIP DESIGNS: LNG, METHANOL AND AMMONIA
The tanker industry is assessing and switching to new fuels, however questions remain. This session sees a succession of case studies that assess the operational experience, issues, challenges and rewards seen when running on a candidate future fuel.
Time | Session | Presenters |
16:10 |
Ammonia-powered chemical and product tanker vessels – unlocking the potential
The world’s first ammonia-fuelled tanker is set to enter into service in 2025. What is the prospect others will follow?
|
Martial Claudepierre, General Manager Sustainable Shipping, Bureau Veritas |
16:30 |
Methanol-powered chemical and product tankers – unlocking the potential
Current methanol-fuelled projects span newbuilding and retrofit projects. A further five methanol-powered newbuilds are set for delivery by 2023. First approvals for operating boilers on methanol have also been granted and there are now dual-fuel engines that can run on any type of methanol as well as a methanol-HFO mix. Issues include the greater storage space required and the fuel’s toxicity and availability. Another major talking point is compatibility with the EU’s Fit for 55 Package

Catrine Vestereng, Vice President & Business Director Tankers, Maritime, DNV |
16:50 |
LNG-powered tankers – unlocking the potential
Almost a quarter of all tanker on order are LNG-fuelled. This session will detail why product and chemical owners favour this option at the newbuilding stage and the key to class-approved, fast and cost-effective LNG retrofits

- SIRE 2.0: what this means for day-to-day operations
- Trends in vetting records and vetting acceptance
- The route to Zero Observations
- Making sure crew are on board – in every sense
