12:35

CO2 reduction by blending biofuels and fossil fuels

Most ships in operation today, are dependent on the use of fossil fuels. To reduce the GHG-emissions, the use of liquid biofuels can be a good alternative. Biofuels are sustainably produced from bio-waste or biomass. In principle, biofuels can be considered as climate neutral. They only release the amount of CO2 during combustion, that the refined plants have absorbed in their growth. Of course, the refinery process of the biofuels must be considered in this balance as well because that also causes CO2 emissions. Nevertheless, there are saving potentials compared to fossil fuels of 50-70%. Adding biofuels to fossil fuels, makes it possible to reduce CO2 emissions.

Arend Bonder, Sales and Marketing Manager Europe, Aquametro Oil & Marine
