The shipmanagement company has promoted its chief financial officer to the top executive position
Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM) has promoted chief financial officer Sebastian von Hardenberg to become chief executive, taking over from Ian Beveridge on 1 January 2025. Mr von Hardenberg is a long-standing employee of Schulte Group and BSM.
He joined the Schulte Group in 2005, and from 2006 to 2009, he served as head of control at Bernhard Schulte, the shipowning arm of the Schulte Group, before assuming the role of financial director at BSM Germany.
Following several career milestones in Hong Kong, Cyprus and Singapore, where he held positions including executive assistant to the chief executive and director of business risk, he was appointed chief financial officer of BSM in 2015.
His promotion to chief executive comes as the global shipping industry is facing huge challenges.
“The shipping industry is undergoing fundamental change. Issues such as digital transformation, increasing decarbonisation requirements, and the shortage of skilled workers are having a lasting impact on the market,” said Mr von Hardenberg.
“I look forward to driving BSM’s strategy forward during a time where transition and constant change are essential.”
Mr Beveridge will remain chief executive of the Schulte Group and will continue as chairman of the BSM board.
