Wärtsilä has signed five-year optimised maintenance agreements covering the main engines for two very large gas carriers (VLGCs) operated by Latsco Marine Management (LMM)
Both Hellas Dynasty and Hellas Voyager were built in 2020 at the Hyundai Heavy Industries yard in South Korea. Latsco Marine Management chief operating officer Kostas Vlachos said “We appreciate Wärtsilä’s support and recognise their extensive service capabilities, which are unmatched in the marine industry. This agreement will ensure that our vessels can operate with the maximum reliability, availability and performance.”
Under the terms of the agreement, Wärtsilä will provide remote support and condition monitoring systems, including Expert Insight – the company’s predictive maintenance offering for 4-stroke engines which has now been extended to 2-stroke engines.
Expert Insight combines artificial intelligence techniques and rule-based advanced diagnostics to enable customer support from the company’s expertise centres around the world. The service can reduce unplanned maintenance by up to 50% while also reducing fuel consumption and emissions by 3 to 4%. Wärtsilä will also provide a broad range of services for the vessels’ engines including 24/7 remote technical support and annual audits, as well as the planning and delivery of spare parts required for the overhauls.
Optimised maintenance agreements are a key part of Wärtsilä’s Lifecycle offering and are designed to ensure certainty of operations with budgeted maintenance costs. The company currently has more than 700 vessels covered under maintenance agreements.
Wärtsilä Marine Power sales manager for 2 stroke engines lifecycle solutions Rajeev Janardhan said “By applying smart technology and performance optimisation services, Wärtsilä aims to deliver greater efficiencies, a minimised impact on the environment and a higher level of safety to the shipping industry. This agreement will provide LMM with maintenance cost predictability while allowing them to focus on their core business.”
The contract between Wärtsilä and Latsco Marine was signed in August 2020 and became effective from September.
