A leading classification society has appointed leaders into senior vice president positions as it focuses on shipping’s future
Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore has made several key appointments to its management team as the France-headquartered class society redesigns its operational structure.
With a head office in La Defense, Paris, Bureau Veritas (BV) has appointed three senior vice presidents to strengthen its management presence in the key maritime hubs of London (UK), Athens (Greece) and Shanghai (China).
David Barrow has moved from Singapore to London and been promoted to run operations in Western Europe and the Americas.
In Athens, Paillette Palaiologou is now the head of Eastern Europe, Mediterranean Sea, the Middle East, India and Africa, while Alex Gregg-Smith will remain in Shanghai to head up the Asia Pacific (APA) region, following experience covering north Asia and China. Also in APA, which now combines north Asia and southeast Asia Pacific zones, Lilli Chi has been appointed as vice president for BV’s southeast Asia Pacific zone, based in Singapore.
She has experience as a shipbroker with Fearnleys, and previous leadership roles within Wärtsilä, Wilhelmsen Ships Service and Bery Maritime.
In June, Suba Sivandran from Deloitte and BMT joined BV’s Paris head office as director of strategy, sustainability and advanced services. He is responsible for BV’s future shipping team which will share research and expertise on sustainability technologies and initiatives, such as the CO2 value chain, alternative fuels, wind-assisted propulsion and nuclear energy, across BV’s maritime group.
“The future of shipping depends on technology and fuels being developed and deployed on ships – a focus on people and developing their expertise and careers in shipping is vital to our success,” said Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore president Matthieu de Tugny.
“The future of shipping also requires action and collaboration beyond maritime. Our ability to collaborate externally and internally, through initiatives such as our future shipping team, and by leveraging the expertise of our 83,000 colleagues in the wider Bureau Veritas group, are key differentiators for us.
“In a more complex world, the depth and strength of BV across supply and value chains provides significant added value to our maritime clients.”
