Eagle Bulk Shipping chief executive Gary Vogel has been named the Connecticut Maritime Association (CMA) Commodore for 2022
Mr Vogel follows a long succession of influential maritime industry leaders as Commodore. The 2022 Commodore Award will be presented 31 March 2022 at the Gala Dinner marking the conclusion of the annual Connecticut Maritime Association conference and expo, at the Hilton Hotel in Stamford, Connecticut.
The award is given each year to a person in the international maritime industry who has contributed to the growth and development of the industry.
Mr Vogel has served as chief executive and director of NASDAQ-listed Eagle Bulk Shipping since September 2015. Prior to joining Eagle, Mr Vogel spent 14 years with the Clipper Group in positions of increasing responsibility, culminating in the role of chief executive and director.
Mr Vogel graduated from the US Merchant Marine Academy in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Transportation and received his US Coast Guard Unlimited Tonnage 3rd Officers License. After graduating from the USMMA, Mr Vogel served as an officer in the US Naval Reserve and began his shoreside career as a dry cargo broker at Pinney, Inc and Skaarup Shipbrokers, and then in chartering for Van Ommeren Bulk Shipping (USA).
Mr Vogel serves as a director of SFL Corp and is on the Lloyd’s Register North America Advisory Committee.
