Lloyd’s Register is investing in senior leadership in Hong Kong as the region’s shipping industry faces emerging environmental regulations
Edward Koo has been hired by Lloyd’s Register as vice president and its new strategic business partner in Hong Kong to bolster its relationship management in eastern Asia.
He brings more than a decade of maritime industry experience to the classification society, having come from Tai Chong Cheang Steamship Co (TCC) where Mr Koo served as group chief operations officer.
At TCC, he led the commercial and technical operations for the company’s bulk carriers and tanker fleets, and the company’s research and development programmes, including developing proprietary emissions-reduction technology for ships.
In his new role, Mr Koo will lead Lloyd’s Register’s strategic client relationship management for the region’s most influential maritime owners, operators and managers, while serving as the senior representative for the UK-based group in Hong Kong.
“The sector faces increasing complexity due to emerging environmental regulations, evolving technologies and longstanding traditions that are fundamental to maritime heritage,” said Mr Koo.
“I look forward to collaborating with key stakeholders in Hong Kong and across the broader shipping community to develop value-added solutions for navigating these unprecedented challenges.”
Mr Koo has previously worked as an IT operations business analyst at oil major Chevron where he supported pricing operations for finished products at owned and franchised global facilities.
