Lloyd’s Register has re-appointed a president of its branch in Singapore to drive its business in the region
Goh Chung Hun will rejoin Lloyd’s Register (LR) as president of the class society’s Singapore branch following a three-year tenure as general manager for the ship fleet at Pacific International Lines (PIL).
He has more than 30 years of maritime industry experience across seafaring, fleet management, technical, marine operations, class and regulation, including as LR’s marine operations manager in Singapore between 2005 and 2012.
Mr Goh was responsible for operating around 100 container ships while at PIL. Prior to that, he was director of shipping and marine at the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), where he managed country’s registry of ships, flag state control, port state control, marine casualty investigations, maritime regulations, and the training and certification of seafarers.
While at MPA, he was the head of Singapore’s delegation to IMO for the Marine Environment Protection Committee and chaired the IMO working group that finalised the ban on the use of heavy fuel oil in the Arctic.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, he was responsible for setting up a specialised team to manage and facilitate safe crew change at the Port of Singapore.
Mr Goh holds an MSc in maritime studies from Nanyang Technological University and a Class 1 certificate of competency in marine engineering.
He started his professional career as an engineering cadet, sailing on crude oil tankers operating around the Gulf of Mexico and worked his way up to being a chief engineer with Neptune Orient Line.
