The UK’s Secretary of State for Transport has appointed Siân George as the chair of the Port of Milford Haven, Wales
Siân George took over the role of chair at the Port of Milford Haven, Wales, on 22 June 2024, succeeding Chris Martin.
Mr Martin joined the Welsh port, a major hub for oil and gas maritime trade in the UK, as vice-chair in 2012 and became chair in 2017, overseeing key steps in the harbour’s development.
Dr George will continue to oversee these developments and future projects to raise efficiency and increase port activities.
Milford Haven is a key port for LNG imports into the UK from production centres around the world and is positioned to become an important hub for offshore renewable energy.
Dr George brings board level experience in the maritime, energy and safety sectors and has knowledge of the marine renewables sector, where she has been a strong voice for UK and European policy and regulatory reform.
Port of Milford Haven chief executive Tom Sawyer said Dr George joins as the port is diversifying.
“We are making significant investments in our pilotage operations to ensure we keep delivering our waterway customer’s needs, safely and effectively,” said Mr Sawyer.
“We are also focused on expanding the influence Pembroke Port has within the offshore wind, wave and tidal industries to become a key hub for green industrial growth.”
Port of Milford Haven handles around 20% of the UK’s seaborne trade in oil and gas. It also owns and operates Pembroke Port and Milford Dock, with activities such as cargo handling, ferry operations, fish landing and cruise ship calls.
