Chief executive of Singapore’s Maritime and Port Authority (MPA), Quah Ley Hoon, is stepping down 5 September 2022 and will be succeeded by Teo Eng Dih, currently deputy secretary policy of the Ministry of Defence (Mindef)
Quah Ley Hoon assumed the position of MPA chief executive 1 January 2019 and continued to further MPA’s vision as a leading maritime agency driving Singapore’s global maritime aspirations. Under her stewardship, MPA completed Phase 1 of land reclamation for the Tuas Port project in 2021.
Her tenure saw MPA launch the digitalPORT@SG initiative to help streamline port clearance forms across multiple agencies into a one-stop digital clearance platform and she worked to ensure continuation of crew changes in Singapore despite the disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
In a statement, MPA said, “Ms Quah initiated the Singapore Shipping Tripartite Alliance Resilience Fund in November 2020, the first global tripartite initiative to work with stakeholders in seafaring nations on sustainable solutions for safe crew changes.”
“To minimise disruption to the maritime industry, she was instrumental in leading efforts such as Sea-Air-Vaccination Exercise and Sea Crew Vaccination Initiative to safeguard the health of both local maritime personnel as well as crew members on board ships calling at Singapore.”
In appreciation of her efforts, Singapore’s Ministry of Transport said it would “like to put on record its appreciation to Ms Quah for her significant contributions as the chief executive of MPA and wish her all the best in her future endeavours.”
Prior to joining MPA, Ms Quah was chief editor of Channel News Asia, MediaCorp, Singapore’s state-owned broadcaster. MPA did not comment on her next appointment.
Mr Teo was special assistant to then Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean between 2016 and 2018 before he joined Mindef. At the ministry of defence, he oversaw the expansion of defence co-operation with international partners and strengthened collaborations at the ASEAN Defence Ministers Meeting platform.
