Ardmore Shipping has announced that Robert Gaina has assumed the chief operating officer role and Mark Cameron retires after 15 years with the tanker operator
Ardmore Shipping has announced that executive vice president and chief operating officer Mark Cameron has retired after 15 years with the company, and Robert Gaina has assumed the chief operating officer role with effect from 2 January 2026.
In its announcement, Ardmore described Mr Cameron as “a founding member of Ardmore Shipping’s management team”.
The company noted he “had a significant impact in shaping our culture and decisively championed our people”, including in recent years as managing director of Ardmore Shipping Asia in Singapore.
Ardmore Shipping also stated that, beyond the company, Mr Cameron “played a significant role on the industry stage”, including through formal involvement with representative bodies for tanker shipping and a broader commitment to “safety at sea, seafarer welfare, and professionalism and integrity in all business dealings.”
Mr Cameron has been a valued speaker and commentator at the Riviera Tanker Shipping & Trade conferences, and was honoured with a Riviera Maritime Media Lifetime Achievement Award in September 2025.
He chose to accept the honour at an intimate maritime supper supporting The Brun Bear Foundation, a UK charity founded by Riviera’s Edwin Lampert, dedicated to marine conservation and wider societal projects.
Ardmore Shipping announced in May 2025 that Mr Gaina would take the chief operating officer position, adding he has served the company for 10 years “in multiple leadership roles on both the commercial and operations side of the business.”
The company also said Mr Gaina previously sailed as a “Master Mariner on product and chemical tankers”, and earned a Global Executive MBA from Erasmus University in Rotterdam, and a Bachelor of Science degree from the Maritime Academy in Constanza.
The company linked Mr Gaina’s progression to its internal development approach, while Mr Gaina framed his experience as values-led.
“It has always been clear to me that the company values its people as much as its performance,” he said.
Ardmore Shipping said, as chief operating officer, Mr Gaina holds leadership responsibility for its “fully integrated operating activities”, including chartering, commercial operations and technical management.
