One of the world’s largest tugboat owners has appointed a new director to manage its operations in one of the fastest-growing towage markets
Svitzer has appointed Eduardo Beser as managing director of its Brazilian operations, where it is expanding its fleet to meet the growing demand for harbour towage.
Mr Beser will focus on strengthening Svitzer’s services, supporting the evolving needs of terminal operators and shipowners, advancing the company’s strategic growth ambitions and integrating newbuild tugs into the fleet.
“This appointment reflects our strong commitment to Brazil as a strategic market within the Americas region,” said Svitzer managing director for the Americas, Daniel Reedtz Cohen. His promotion opened up the role in Brazil that Mr Beser has now taken.
Svitzer is extending its fleet in Brazil as new terminals open and larger ships visit harbours.
In March 2026, Svitzer incorporated Svitzer Cassino into its Brazil operations, which now totals 24 tugboats. This 23-m tugboat was built by Rio Maguari Shipyard as part of a series of three vessels ordered by the Danish shipowner, all to Robert Allan Ltd’s RAmparts 2300 design with 70 tonnes of bollard pull.
Svitzer Copacabana was the first of this series and is operating in Paranagua, Brazil, according to automatic identification system data, supporting LNG carriers at a floating storage and regasification vessel.
Rio Maguari has almost completed a third tugboat, Svitzer Encintadas, at its shipyard in Belem, Brazil, and two more for other Brazilian owners.
