World Fuel Services marine technical director John Stirling will become secretary of the CIMAC WG7 working group on marine fuels
World Fuel Services’ (World Fuel) John Stirling is filling the vacant position of secretary on the International Council on Power, Drives and Propulsion’s (CIMAC) WG7 working group. The working group focuses on maritime fuels.
Historically a technical forum for conventional diesel engine expertise, CIMAC has recently refocused to include all energy sources. The organisation describes itself as an alternative energy association, covering innovation and best practices in power, drives and propulsion.
“By working closely with influential industry associations, we can support the important transition taking place throughout the marine sector,” Mr Stirling said. “We believe the cultivation of collaboration among industry players is central to navigating the path to a high-quality fuel market, and a greener shipping industry. Knowledge can be proactively shared, thereby promoting best practices in not only bunker fuel operations, but also energy and emissions management. This is critical as new fuels and fuel specifications enter the market. I am delighted to accept this important role at CIMAC and use all my experience to support both the industry’s and CIMAC’s transition.”
World Fuel Services said its marine technical team has had representation in a number of industry working groups for two decades, including at the International Organization for Standardisation, the Oil Companies International Marine Forum, the International Bunker Industry Association. The organisation also supports emissions regulation discussions ongoing at both International Maritime Organization and the European Union.
