Caribe Tankers is investing in satellite communications for crew welfare and business requirements
Marshall Islands incorporated shipowner Caribe Tankers USA (CTU) is deploying new communications terminals on chemical tankers 2006-built Caribe Luna and 2007-built Caribe Maria to connect with geostationary and low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites using one service.
CTU will install Inmarsat Maritime’s fully managed and bonded connectivity service, NexusWave, on these tankers to serve its operational and crew communications requirements. NexusWave combines Ka-band and L-band communications over Inmarsat’s geostationary orbiting satellites and the LEO constellation run by Eutelsat OneWeb.
Both Liberia-flagged IMO II product and chemical tankers service the Caribbean market under long-term contractual freight agreements with its business partners.
CTU manager, Jason Holden, said this will enhance crew welfare services as they can remain connected with unlimited data whether the ship is sailing in open waters or anchored at a busy port.
“As a 24/7 commercial and operational shipping management company, we understand the importance of being able to communicate at any time to and from the vessels for business demands,” said Mr Holden. “More importantly, providing crew fast and reliable internet has notably improved productivity on board.”
Viasat subsidiary Inmarsat Maritime’s NexusWave enables vessels to maintain a seamless, consistent connection to high-speed internet with global coverage, unlimited data, and managed performance levels.
“Reliable, high-speed internet is an increasingly important ingredient in fostering a happy, loyal and healthy working environment,” said Mr Holden. “Evidence suggests Inmarsat’s NexusWave will meet our requirements for crew as well as operational connectivity. We look forward to seeing the results of our collaboration.”
