Jan De Nul has reached the halfway point in a project to install 72 turbines on Vattenfall’s Kriegers Flak offshore windfarm in Denmark. To date, the company has installed 36 turbines
The first Siemens Gamesa 8.4-MW turbine was installed on 27 January 2021. The last turbine is scheduled to be installed in mid-June. The offshore windfarm will be the largest in Denmark.
For the first time since its expansion in 2018, the port of Roenne on the Danish island of Bornholm is serving as marshalling harbour for the construction of an offshore windfarm.
The components for the wind turbines are delivered there from Denmark’s mainland. At Roenne, the various parts are assembled. Four sets of wind turbines are then loaded on board Jan De Nul’s jack-up installation vessel Vole au Vent, after which the vessel sails to the offshore installation site off the Danish east coast.
In 2017 and 2018, Jan De Nul Group designed, built and installed two large gravity-based foundations for the offshore high-voltage substations for the windfarm. The 600-MW windfarm is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2021.
