Keel-laying held at Freire for Briggs Marine's maintenance support vessel

The addition of the vessel to the company’s fleet will enhance and expand its offering to a range of industries including defence, ports and harbours, energy and utilities, construction and offshore renewable energy.

Speaking at the time that the keel-laying ceremony for the ship took place, Briggs Marine Contractors managing director Collieson Briggs said, “It is great to see building has started on the vessel, which will further enhance our marine project support capability for the expanding renewables sector, as well as the traditional marine construction industry.”

As previosuly highlighted by OWJ, the vessel is primarily configured to support Briggs’ ongoing contracts with UK Government, offshore windfarms and commercial ports.

Briggs Marine’s vessel will primarily undertake inspection, servicing, and replacement of aids to navigation and heavy inshore moorings in the UK and overseas, but also will handle tasks such as diving, surveys, and maintenance support while maintaining its core functionality.

Notable features include a moonpool, detachable A-frame, a four-point mooring system and a survey project office. The design also incorporates a demountable crew transfer vessel boarding ladder to support offshore windfarm projects.

Scheduled for delivery in 2024, the vessel is 40 m in length with a diesel-electric DP2 propulsion system configured for peak efficiency during operations in UK and northern European Waters.

The vessel also incorporates noise reduction enhancements and MLC-compliant accommodation for a crew of six and 10 project personnel.
