Yangzijiang Shipbuilding of China has secured an order to construct three CABU III vessels for Norway-based Klaveness Combination Carriers
Klaveness Combination Carriers (KCC) has returned to Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, which it previously contracted to produce eight CLEANBU combination carriers from 2019 to 2021, for three 83,300-dwt third-generation CABU III vessels, due for delivery in 2026.
This new order, a testament to KCC’s faith in Yangzijiang’s engineering capabilities, will be equipped with greater fuel-efficient solutions, such as wind-assisted propulsion, which will help KCC achieve its decarbonisation goals.
The CABU III vessels are a leading design in shipping in providing a sustainable and flexible shipping solution for cargo transport through the functionality of transporting both dry and wet bulk cargoes.
The partnership between KCC and Yangzijiang represents the ongoing commitment to investing in sustainable infrastructure and transitioning towards more sustainable practices in the maritime industry.
Yangzijiang Shipbuilding (Holdings) Ltd executive chairman and chief executive Ren Letian said, “We are grateful for the immense trust placed in us by KCC and are honoured with the repeat order placed. Assisting our customer’s decarbonisation efforts, the new vessels will be equipped with greater fuel-efficient solutions such as wind-assisted propulsion. In addition, the inherent efficiency of combination carrier design will also help reduce the carbon footprint of the industry due to the reduction of idle sailing.”
The vessels’ ability to reduce CO2 emissions by 35% over that achieved with the previous 2019 to 2021 series marks significant progress toward International Maritime Organization’s goal of reducing CO2 emissions 40% by 2030.
