Luxcara has awarded a contract for the inter-array cables for the Waterkant offshore windfarm to Twentsche Kabelfabriek (TKF)
The independent German asset manager said TKF will be responsible for the engineering, manufacturing, testing and delivery of the inter-array cables and accessories to ensure seamless connection between the Waterkant turbines and Amprion’s converter platform.
TKF will supply 130 km of 66-kV aluminium core cables for the project and will manufacture the cables at its new, carbon-neutral factory in Eemshaven, the Netherlands.
Luxcara project director Holger Matthiesen said, “TKF’s commitment to quality and sustainability aligns seamlessly with our objectives for the Waterkant project.”
The Waterkant project is a 296-MW offshore windfarm consisting of 16 18.5-MW turbines that will be built on site N-6.7 in the German exclusive economic zone.
Luxcara’s bidding entity, Waterkant Energy GmbH, won the right to build the project in the 2023 German offshore wind auction. Apart from financial criteria, the auction also focused on social and environmental criteria, which was a first in Germany.
The site is next to a cluster of existing offshore windfarms, approximately 90 km from the island of Borkum.
The project is due to be connected to the German grid by 2028.
