Beginning this month, SUN Line Shipping, a subsidiary of Sweden’s ThorSvecon Group (TSG), will operate a Rotterdam˗Stockholm˗Hull container service route
Perseus, a 660-TEU capacity ship, will sail a weekly service to and from Stockholm Norvik Port adding two new destination connections to the port and further strengthening its status as an important logistics hub in the greater Stockholm area.
Stockholm Norvik Port is a new roro and container port with a prime location in the Baltic Sea where short approach lanes and efficient transport links provide direct access to rapidly growing regions in Europe.
Hutchison Ports, the world’s biggest terminal operator, runs the port’s container terminal and chief executive of Hutchison Ports Stockholm, Lawrence Yam said increased connectivity to and from Stockholm Norvik gives customers more alternatives and greater flexibility.
“We are very pleased SUN Line Shipping sees the advantages of introducing a new service that gives their existing and new customers the possibility to connect directly to the greater Stockholm area.”
TSG chief executive Eric Hjalmarsson said, “We have seen a continuous increase in demand from freight owners wanting to transport goods between Sweden, the Netherlands and England, and now the time is right. Operating from Sweden’s newest port, Stockholm Norvik, feels like a natural step and is completely aligned with our goal of strengthening our position in east coast shipping.”
Stockholm Norvik’s strategic location is expected to encourage companies seeking to expand their footprint in the Baltic. Earlier this year, Stena Line began offering ferry services on a new route from Nynäshamn in Sweden to Hanko, Finland.
The port has also begun a procurement process for a hydrogen fuelling station – the first step towards achieving Ports of Stockholm’s goal for work vehicles to operate fossil fuel-free by 2025.
