The Italian owner has welcomed a ship-assistance tug into its fleet following its construction in Turkey
Rimorchitori Napoletani has taken delivery of a new harbour tugboat from Sanmar Shipyards to raise its towage capabilities around a major Italian port.
Sanmar built Gargano as part of its Bogacay series of newbuild tugboats using Robert Allan Ltd’s RAmparts 2400SX- MKII design, which is exclusive to the Turkish shipbuilder. This 24-m tugboat was originally built as Bogacay LXXX with a bollard pull over the stern of 70 tonnes and a free running speed of at least 12 knots.
Rimorchitori Napoletani, with operations dating back to 1917, provides towage and ship-handling services in the Port of Naples, Italy.
Gargano has a moulded beam of 12 m, a FiFi1 fire-fighting system with two monitors, and twin diesel four-stroke, high-speed engines that are linked to a selective catalytic reduction exhaust aftertreatment system for reducing NOx emissions and compliance with IMO Tier III emissions standards. These drive two azimuth thrusters at the stern.
Sanmar said Gargano has a high standard of machinery automation which is designed to maximise operational efficiency. Similar Bogacay tugboats have a depth of 4.5 m and a navigational draught of 5.5 m.
“Our latest Bogacay-class tugs achieve a new level of low-emissions, low environmental impact tugboat operation,” said Sanmar Shipyards commercial director Ruchan Civgin.
“Gargano represents the latest in our ongoing drive to drastically reduce the environmental impact of the tug and towing industry.”
Sanmar’s relationship with Rimorchitori Napoletani started in 2017 with the delivery of Sirapinar-class tug Vivara, which the shipbuilder said is “a smaller sister vessel to the Bogacay series.”
