A huge maritime and offshore logistics and services hub will be built in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, and optimised using digital services, following an agreement between Al Masaood Energy, Columbia Group and Fameline Holding
Al Masaood Energy will build what it is calling a “mega-base” in the industrial centre of Abu Dhabi city with jetty berthing facilities to serve the offshore logistics requirements of energy companies in the region.
This UAE-headquartered group has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to co-operate with Columbia Group, which provide digitalisation and software engineering to the new offshore and maritime hub.
Al Masaood Energy has also signed an MOU with Fameline Holding, which will support the project by providing engineering, procurement and logistics expertise, particularly in the construction, maintenance and operation of the jetty berthing facilities.
This will be a 300,000 m2 complex to house future business and operational functions including headquarters, workshops, warehouses, knowledge centres, manufacturing facilities, showrooms, offshore logistics, catering areas, worker accommodation and offshore support vessels.
Columbia will provide its integrated maritime and logistics services platform for developing new logistics and vessel performance solutions, shipmanagement and seafarer recruitment.
Fameline, which operates in the various sectors of maritime supply of products and services, intends to expand its network in the Middle East by operating from the mega-base as a result of this strategic partnership.
Further collaboration areas among the three partners include the exploration of recruitment and management of the required workforce where aspects of employee welfare will be considered, including nutrition, medical supplies, e-learning and training concepts and mental health support.
Al Masaood Energy general manager Ahmad El Tannir expects these co-operations to facilitate construction and operation of the ongoing mega-base project.
“By partnering with Fameline Holding and Columbia Ship Management, we aim not only to diversify on a strategic level but also to enable strong synergies by joining logistics expertise to build on our core activities and further serve our customer requirements within the evolving energy segment in Abu Dhabi for the years to come,” he said.
Fameline Holding chief executive Adamos Seraphides expects this co-operation will enable the group to expand in the Middle East.
“We are thrilled to become part of the exciting mega-base project and are fully committed to add value to this ambitious infrastructure development,” said Mr Seraphides.
Columbia chief executive Mark O’Neil said the company would support Al Masaood and Fameline on construction and operation of the integrated industrial complex.
“Our advanced engineering expertise, digitalisation, software engineering, maritime knowledge and network will certainly help to achieve Al Masaood’s goals for the benefit of the region and globally,” said Mr O’Neil.
Al Masaood Energy provides energy services throughout the Middle East, North Africa, in the eastern Mediterranean and in southern Asia through strategic partners of multinational contractors and manufacturers operating within the energy industry.
Columbia started expanding in the Middle East in 2021 by creating a standalone shipmanagement entity in Saudi Arabia, then engaging with International Maritime Industries to provide maritime services to the shipyards in the King Salman international complex in Ras Al Khair.
Cyprus-headquartered Fameline Holding is a conglomerate composed of some 50 companies active across a variety of sectors in the supply of products and services related to the shipping industry worldwide. Its marine services are through MIE Group and Kaeline, logistics services are through Swift Marine and its oil and gas operations are with Fameline Energy.
