Ferry group DFDS is using MAN Energy Solutions and software from Logimatic to automate procurement processes
This collaboration improves operational efficiency, reduces administration for crew and shore staff and minimises purchasing mistakes.
DFDS is using Logimatic software Sertica with MAN Energy Solutions services to standardise information exchanges between its ferries and suppliers.
This standardises purchase order (PO) and requests for quotation (RFQ) processes for products and services, said DFDS operational procurement manager Lene Kragkær Nilsson. “We have been interested in finding a standardised and efficient solution to exchange RFQ and PO information with suppliers,” he explained.
“To ensure quicker responses, reduce the workload and minimise errors for both DFDS and our suppliers,” Mr Nilsson added.
DFDS digital procurement manager Rajeshwaran Kalaiselvan said the ferry group was using Sertica Connect for better connectivity with its supply chain.
“DFDS wanted to find a solution that would remove the need for a third-party technical solution managing the collaboration between DFDS and suppliers,” said Mr Kalaiselvan. “We have found this with the Sertica Connect and we look forward to further improving the solution.”
Sertica Connect provides shipping companies access to communicate directly with several maritime suppliers. Its direct integration results in easy exchange of RFQ, PO and order confirmations.
MAN Energy Solutions senior project manager in business development and digitalisation Ingi Helgason said Logimatic software has “resulted in an important step toward more automated processes”. He continued, “With increased integration to Sertica, we see that we have a true win-win situation for both customers and suppliers.”
MAN Energy Solutions head of PrimeServ diesel processes and analytics Harald Capek explained this required integration and co-operation for “making the purchasing process faster and more digital”. He commented, “This is part of our digital strategy and high on the agenda of our customers.”
Sertica has other modules for fleet management processes and operations. This includes providing information on inspections, vettings, near-misses and risk management into a single HSEQ module.
The benefits to shipowners include transparency of operations, streamlined workflows and stable data exchange, Logimatic head of sales Hans Christian Jensen told Riviera Maritime Media.
Owners and managers can track all incidents, audits, non-conformities and corrective actions in one place, said Mr Jensen. “From a procurement perspective, management is able to make better budgets and estimates – they have a complete overview of who is spending what,” said Mr Jensen.
“Management can use Sertica to manage reports, finances, key performance indicators and operational expenditure,” he continued. “Sertica helps manage the technical aspects of a fleet and optimising management based on data.”
Procurement optimisation will be discussed at Riviera Maritime Media’s events Optimised Ship Forum and Maritime Air Pollution Conference, Europe in the Netherlands from 18-20 May 2020
