High voltage engineering specialist EDS Group has been awarded a three-year contract by EDF Energy Renewables for operations and maintenance management of the high voltage network at Teesside offshore windfarm in the UK. EDS was awarded the contract following a competitive tendering process involving three other major players in the sector.
The Teesside windfarm is off the northeast coast at Coatham Sands near Redcar in Cleveland and has been operational since 2013. The contract includes a one-year optional extension, and will see Teesside come under the remit of the EDS Control Centre, through which EDS will manage the high voltage network around the clock and carry out planned maintenance, provide fault location services and emergency repairs if necessary. EDS is already responsible for managing more than 1 gigawatt of electricity through the control centre.
Group director at EDS Ryan Henderson said: “Proactive maintenance and effective monitoring with rapid fault detection and response play an important role in optimising efficiency, reducing operational costs and managing the levelised cost of energy. Our goal is to maximise availability at lowest cost by minimising unscheduled maintenance, increasing condition monitoring of critical assets and carrying out planned maintenance as efficiently as possible.”
