GE to provide converters for Sewind turbines

GE Power Conversion is to supply Shanghai Electric Wind Power Equipment Co Ltd (Sewind) with convertors for the Chinese company’s offshore wind turbines. GE will be supplying its 4MW fully fed LV3 converters.

GE said its LV3 converter “is ideal” for offshore windfarms. At the heart of LV3 converters are standardised, high power density power stacks. The company said Sewind awarded the contract based on the convertor’s high power density and small size. The converters will be manufactured in Shanghai.

In addition to providing the technology, GE will also be undertaking service and maintenance responsibilities to ensure flawless operation of its scope of supply.
