Eyeing opportunities in the growing Japanese offshore wind market, Itochu Corp in Japan has made an equity investment in Purus Marine in the UK
Purus Marine is a maritime holding company investing in vessels and equipment that reduce carbon emissions, including the offshore wind market. Purus Marine has already acquired a fleet of more than 60 vessels and has made several investments in offshore wind ships.
Itochu said it will “promote strategic collaboration with Purus Marine including the development of low-carbon assets and joint ownership of quality assets that contribute to decarbonation in the Japanese market.”
In September 2022, Purus Marine acquired HST Marine, a leading UK-based provider of crew transfer vessels to the offshore wind industry. HST’s fleet of modern CTVs includes one of the industry’s first battery-hybrid CTVs, the Chartwell Marine-designed HST Ella.
In March 2023, Purus Wind placed contracts at Damen Shipyards for eight new vessels for the offshore wind sector, a deal that included four Damen Fast Crew Supplier (FCS) 2710 Hybrid CTVs, three Damen FCS 3210 Hybrid CTVs and a 90-m commissioning service operation vessel.
