Maersk Broker has completed a management and employee buyout from its long-standing owners, the Danish Mc-Kinney Møller family
The Danish shipbroking house has been owned by the Mc-Kinney Moller family since its foundation in 1914.
In the final week of December 2023, Maersk Broker said in a statement the change of ownership “is based on a common ambition of the seller and the buyer to preserve the more than 100 years’ legacy and to secure the company’s position long term, under a new name with a new ownership structure.”
The buyout sum remains undisclosed. There had been speculation the broking house would be subject to a takeover bid by rival broker Clarksons.
Chairman of the board, Kristian Mørch said, “The owners and the board of directors have for some time explored different ownership structures to ensure the company remains strongly positioned for the future. Acknowledging the unwavering commitment of the management and employees to preserve the legacy and values that have been the foundation for Maersk Broker’s success for generations, we believe they are the right owners to ensure the continued success of the company in decades to come. On behalf of the owners and the board of directors, we wish the company Godspeed in their future endeavours.”
The company will rebrand as MB Shipbrokers going forward. The current management and employees of Maersk Broker will undertake the buyout. Maersk Broker added there will be no changes to the operation of the company, which will continue as usual.
Maersk Broker chief executive Anders Hald has been named as chief executive of MB Shipbrokers.
