Conversion work on the diesel-electric PX 121 design platform supply vessel (PSV) Aurora Thunder is at Royal Niestern Sander shipyard in the Netherlands
Royal Wagenborg reported in a social media post that the PSV was being fitted with an accommodation module fabricated by the Dutch shipyard as part of its conversion to a multipurpose vessel. The module was lifted into place by Wagenborg Nedlift using two cranes.
Built in 2013 at Ulstein Verft and sailing under the Norwegian flag, the PSV Aurora Thunder (ex Hermit Thunder, ex NAO Thunder and ex Blue Thunder) has an overall length of 83 m and beam of 18 m.
Royal Wagenborg and its shipyard have built strong reputations for conversion work. As you might recall, Royal Wagenborg’s Koenigsborg was awarded the Vessel Conversion of the Year Award at the Annual Offshore Support Journal Conference, Awards and Exhibition in London in 2022.
At the time, Wagenborg Offshore director Edwin de Vries said, “For us, this award is a confirmation of the successful intensive co-operation between Wagenborg and our yard, Royal Niestern Sander. Together we have developed the best possible walk-to-work concept with the best possible resources in the market.”
