Sanmar launches first ElectRA tug for its own fleet

The shipbuilder and owner is constructing Dinamo 2023 as a zero-emissions tug to Robert Allan Ltd’s ElectRA 2300SX design with a Corvus energy storage system on board.

This is the seventh electric battery tug built by Sanmar Shipyards within a year, after three were delivered to HaiSea Electric, two to SAAM Towage and one was completed for a Norwegian owner.

Sanmar said its 23-m electric tug will have 70 tonnes of bollard pull ahead while operating on battery power. It has a moulded beam of 12 m and moulded depth of 5 m, plus a back-up diesel generator set.

Sanmar operates a fleet of more than 30 tugs, with an average age of less than three years, in Turkish ports.

“We have received a huge amount of interest in the ElectRA series from operators around the world,” said Sanmar Shipyards chairman of the board Ali Gürün.

“Doing everything we can towards protecting our planet is of paramount importance and we are, of course, delighted to see the first emissions-free tugboat in our own fleet. This is a milestone moment for us.”
