Family owned Rhoads Industries to invest in new manufacturing facility to support US Navy submarine construction
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro announced a near US$100M investment by privately held Rhoads Industries in a new manufacturing facility at the Philadelphia Navy Yard to support US Navy submarine construction.
“Shipbuilding has always been key part of Philadelphia’s identity and our economy,” said Governor Shapiro on 3 July at a ceremony at the yard, noting that the investment would create 450 jobs.
The family owned large-scale fabricator plans to double its capacity at the shipyard by building an 8,825-m2 manufacturing facility. This onsite facility will allow for a continuous fabrication process speeding up manufacturing, additional outfitting, and provide direct access to a pier for barge shipping of completed products.
Besides large-scale fabrication, Rhoads maintains three layberth piers with deepwater access with the capability of supporting hull, mechanical and electrical work for ship maintenance and repair projects.
