PGE in Poland has commenced discussions with offshore wind developer Ørsted regarding the sale of a 50% stake in two offshore wind projects in the Baltic
The projects have a total capacity of up to 2.5 GW.
PGE and Ørsted will also discuss terms of co-operation for developing the projects.
The subject of discussions will be a sale of 50% of the shares in two special-purpose vehicles: Elektrownia Wiatrowa Baltica-3, which is developing a project with a planned capacity of approximately 1 GW, and Elektrownia Wiatrowa Baltica-2, which is developing a project with a planned capacity of approximately 1.5 GW.
The Baltica-3 project is due to enter into operation in 2026 and the Baltica-2 project by 2030.
In February 2019, PGE said 13 potential partners had responded to a December 2018 invitation to participate in offshore wind projects in the Baltic.
It said at the time it planned to sell a 50% stake in the special-purpose vehicles responsible for the projects to a strategic partner and to subsequently develop them as a joint venture.
Offshore windfarms are one of PGE’s strategic development options after 2020. The projects are in line with Poland’s energy policy to 2040, which highlights offshore wind as one of the main tools for achieving renewables targets.
