Gerard Kasnari has been promoted to manage Pacific Towing, following the departure of Neil Papenfus to become chief executive of PNG Ports
Capt Kasnari has nearly 40 years of experience in Papua New Guinea’s (PNG) maritime sector including positions with Pacific Towing (PacTow).
He joined the vessel owner, a subsidiary of Steamships, as PacTow’s manager of health, safety, security, environment and quality and was promoted to marine operations manager in 2019.
Capt Kasnari’s experience includes overseeing the day-to-day operations of PacTow’s fleet, managing its cadetship programmes, fleet upgrades, regional expansion and new services and initiatives, such as workforce nationalisation.
He commenced his seafaring career in 1985 and became one of the country’s youngest ship masters at just 24 years of age.
