Shipping fleets managed and controlled from Dubai, Greece and the UK have been upgraded with efficient communications terminals, content-management systems and social media platforms for enhanced seafarer welfare
GFS Fleet Management and Tomini Transports in Dubai, Nereus Shipping in Greece and UK-headquartered TMS Gas Cardiff have turned to KVH Industries for hardware, connectivity and crew welfare solutions.
They have introduced KVH Link incorporating news, films, television programming, culture, music and sports content.
KVH very small aperture terminal (VSAT) hardware and connectivity, including TracNet hybrid and TracPhone VSAT terminals and KVH One communications over high-throughput satellites will be added if needed.
For vessels not currently equipped with a KVH terminal and VSAT, KVH offers the compact LinkHub content server for media programmes via secure, encrypted content drives and onboard cyber security.
GFS Ship Management has deployed KVH Link services aboard 16 vessels. “Ensuring high morale is a priority for us,” said GFS senior manager and head of fleet personnel Porus Pervez Dalal.
“Crew welfare and mental health is one of our major areas of focus during ship operations. Crews on our KVH Link-equipped vessels can enjoy entertainment and sports coverage off-watch, whether alone in their cabins or with their shipmates in the common space,” he said.
This is available to seafarers via free wifi and networked monitors on vessels.
“By offering content like this, we believe we will reduce crew turnover,” said Capt Dalal. “A happy crew can lead to increased efficiency and safer operations.”
KVH Link delivers daily TV news in more than 12 languages along with more than 60 different print news editions in more than 20 languages along with new films, TV programming, music, trending social videos, and sports coverage and statistics, all without any impact on the vessel’s VSAT performance or data use.
Nereus Shipping has installed KVH Link and LinkHub across a mixed fleet in which some vessels are equipped with KVH VSAT terminals and others are not.
“We are dedicated to constantly enhancing crew wellbeing,” said Nereus Shipping’s IT manager, Ioannis Chryssoyiannis. “Which is why we have chosen to provide KVH Link and LinkHub services to our fleet’s crew members to ensure premium quality entertainment is delivered to them.”
