Svitzer has brought in new talent to its executive team following its previous chief’s promotion
The AP Moller-Maersk subsidiary has appointed a new global chief commercial officer (CCO) and managing director of its European business following the promotion of its previous vice president and managing director of Svitzer Europe, Kasper Friis Nilaus, to chief executive.
Mr Nilaus has promoted current head of strategy, portfolio and performance management, Videlina Georgieva, as the new global CCO. She joined Svitzer from Maersk Line in 2010 as regional commercial and business development manager in Svitzer Australia. Ms Georgieva has since served as regional head of business development in Singapore and global head of business development.
At the same time, current chief operating officer Lise Demant will become the new managing director for Svitzer Europe, the largest division for the towage group. She joined Svitzer in 2013 from Maersk Tankers to become COO Svitzer Asia and then was appointed global COO in 2017.
Commenting on the changes to the senior leadership team, Mr Nilaus said “I strongly believe in developing people and creating opportunities, and I am very pleased that the ideal candidates for these two key positions have been found within the company.”
These executive moves were started when former Svitzer chief executive Henriette Thygesen moved upwards in the Maersk Group. Then, Svitzer Europe managing director Kasper Friis Nilaus was promoted to that role.
There followed a cascade of appointments and career advances. Maersk Drilling senior director Kasper Karlsen was appointed COO of Svitzer Europe.
Also in July, Lars Even Rasmussen was appointed as head of human resources at Svitzer as a promotion from his previous position as head of organisation development at Maersk Group.
In addition, Svitzer head of marine standards Scott Baker was appointed chairman of the British Tugowners Association (BTA), taking over from previous chair Nick Dorman. Svitzer UK North cluster managing director Ita Dickson also joined BTA’s executive committee.
Opportunities in towage through investment, knowledge and technology will be discussed in depth during Riviera’s Tug Technology Webinar Week, from 1 September. Use this link for more details and to register
