Tokyo Gas Engineering Solutions has signed an agreement with The Netherlands-based IX Renewables to collaborate on offshore wind power generation projects
In a statement, the companies said the agreement combines IX Renewables expertise in management and consultancy services for wind energy projects, with TGES’s knowledge of energy infrastructure engineering and Japanese domestic regulations.
Together, the companies want to establishing a framework joint orders. Their aim is to jointly secure contracts for engineering services such as technical support for design, construction, and operations and maintenance and project management.
IX Renewables has expertise in offshore wind projects gained through projects in Europe and Taiwan. TGES has in-depth understanding of energy infrastructure construction and operation, and of Japanese regulations, standards, and certification requirements.
IX has working in the offshore wind sector since 2006 , specializing in EPCI management and consulting across the life cycle of wind energy projects. It has offices in Europe and Asia, and provides project solutions for developer and investors that integrate technical, commercial and legal expertise.
TGES has been involved in engineering, construction and maintenance services for energy infrastructure in Japan and overseas for more than 50 years. In recent years, the company has leveraged technical capabilities it has cultivated in the gas business and other fields to work in the renewable energy sector has also expanded into offshore wind.
IX Renewables president Eric Kamphues said, “Japan’s offshore wind market is at a critical juncture. By combining IX’s international wind power experience with TGES’ strong engineering foundation and deep knowledge of the Japanese market, we aim to provide high-quality, reliable solutions to offshore wind operators and investors.” TGES president Yasuhiro Konishi noted that offshore wind is expected to play a major role in Japan’s decarbonization strategy.
