Turkey’s Karpowership has expanded its presence in the anchor handling tug segment with the acquisition of a Japanese-built asset, aiming to support its broader offshore operations
The energy shipping company confirmed to Riviera the acquisition of 2007-built, 12,000-hp Maverick I, which has since been renamed Karadeniz Powership Levent Bey. The vessel has already joined the company’s fleet as part of its support vessel portfolio.
With this addition, Karpowership now operates a fleet of 45 powerships, 11 LNG vessels, and two anchor handling tugs.
Karadeniz Powership Levent Bey was originally contracted and delivered to PACC Offshore Services Holdings (POSH) under the name Salvigilant, and later operated within the POSH Terasea joint venture.
In 2020, the vessel was sold as part of an en bloc transaction alongside another vessel to Singapore-based Kim Heng Offshore & Marine following the liquidation of POSH Terasea.
It subsequently operated as Bridgewater 161 before being acquired by Maverick Offshore in 2024. It has now joined the Karpowership fleet under its current name.
According to Clarksons, the vessel has been employed in supply and towage duties in recent years.
Karpowership describes itself as a global energy group pioneering solutions for the energy transition. The company’s investments span floating infrastructure, renewable energy, and onshore power generation assets.
The company owns, operates, and builds the world’s only fleet of floating power plants, with a total installed generating capacity exceeding 8,000 MW.
In addition, Karpowership is an active participant in the LNG market, offering liquefaction, storage, and cargo transfer services through its own fleet and infrastructure.
