Norway-based Zephyr Renewable has initialled an agreement that will see it become the largest owner of a portfolio of offshore wind projects previously developed by Statkraft
Zephyr will be responsible for the continued development of the Bothnia Offshore Sigma and Lambda North areas in the Bothnian Sea in Sweden.
Permit applications for the projects have already been submitted and are currently being processed by the Gävleborg County Administrative Board.
The acquisitions mean Zephyr has significantly strengthened its position as one of the leading players in the Swedish offshore wind market. The company noted Sweden is facing sharply increased demand for electricity, primarily driven by industrial transformation and electrification.
“Offshore wind is uniquely positioned to meet this need and will be a crucial part of the solution for Sweden to succeed in the green transition,” the company said.
Zephyr project development manager Simon Landqvist said the company is very pleased with the acquisitions. “This portfolio has great potential and the expertise that Zephyr possesses in offshore wind will come in handy in the continued development of the projects.”
Completion of the deal is conditional on a foreign direct investment approval.
