Offshore Support Journal 2025 awards recognise the vessels, owners, environmental leadership and technical innovations making an impact on the offshore hydrocarbon and renewables sectors
During an industry gala dinner, leading vessel owners, technical innovators and environmental strategies received awards at Riviera’s Offshore Support Journal Conference, Exhibition and Awards 2025
Milaha Offshore Marine was honoured with the OSJ Shipowner of the Year Award, sponsored by Opsealog, for its investments in technology to galvanise its safety regime and environmental commitments. It has introduced automation, real-time monitoring and Power BI dashboards for data analysis and informed decision-making for its fleet operations.
Shortlisted vessel owners were Cyan Renewables, North Star Shipping and Rawabi Vallianz Offshore Services.
Another prestigious award, OSJ’s Offshore Energy Vessel of the Year Award 2025, was won by Integrated Wind Solutions’ IWS Seawalker, one of the world’s first construction and operations support vessels (CSOVs). Designed by Kongsberg Maritime and built by CMI, it features several industry firsts, ready to support huge windfarm projects in the UK sector of the North Sea.
Notable vessel deliveries in 2024 shortlisted for the award, sponsored by Digital Ocean, included Edison Chouest Offshore’s US built SOV, ECO Edison; EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg’s offshore transfer vessel, Impulse, built by Hitzler Shipyard and designed by Wallaby Boats; and Edda Wind’s SOV Goelo Enabler, which was built by Balenciaga Shipyard to a Salt Ship Design.
Environmental endeavour
Vessel owners were also shortlisted for two awards that recognise environmental leadership and achievement.
SEACOR Marine won the OSJ Environmental Award 2025 for its drive to retrofit platform supply vessels (PSVs) with batteries and hybrid propulsion to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. In 2024, SEACOR revealed plans to retrofit four additional PSVs with battery-hybrid power systems by the end of 2025.
Shortlisted nominees for this award, sponsored by DP & Marine Assurance Norway, included ADNOC Logistics & Services for its investment in ship-to-shore power to lower greenhouse gas emissions when vessels are docked; and Caterpillar for its IMO Tier III-compliant Cat C32 high-speed diesel engines with a selective catalytic reduction system; Equinor was also shortlisted for its intent to encourage investment in ammonia-fuelled vessels through long-term charters, which supports its ambitions to halve its emissions from Norwegian maritime operations by 2030.
Simon Møkster Shipping won the OSJ ESG Award 2025 – recognising leadership in environment, social and governance in the industry – for setting out its ambition of attaining a 50% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and becoming net zero by 2050.
McDermott was shortlisted for this award, sponsored by Caterpillar, for receiving the ABS notation SUSTAIN-1 for its heavy-lift rigid pipelay vessel DLV 2000; and Esvagt was nominated for its transition to servicing the renewables sector with low- and zero-emissions SOVs.
During the industry gala dinner, DOF Group chief executive Mons Aase was honoured with the OSJ Industry Leader Award 2025, sponsored by Uptime, for his outstanding leadership during the past year. He has been chief executive of DOF Group since 2005, and has been part of the management team since 1998.
The OSJ Lifetime Achievement Award 2025, sponsored by classification society DNV, was presented to Tidewater’s executive vice president and chief operating officer, David Darling.
The John Westwood Deal of the Year Award, introduced in 2024, was awarded to Mag Offshore for its acquisition of 20 Atlantic Navigation support vessels for US$183M and Capital Offshore’s order for four newbuild PSVs from Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding.
Shortlisted nominees were Adani Ports for acquiring an 80% stake in Astro Offshore for US$185M; DOF for its investment of US$1.1Bn to purchase 22 vessels from Maersk Supply Service; Cyan Renewables for spending US$702M to acquire MMA Offshore and its 21 offshore vessels; Hercules Supply for commissioning a new multipurpose support vessel using existing shipyard components; and Edison Chouest Offshore as it acquired ROVOP to enhance its subsea services.
Seaonics won OSJ’s Offshore Renewables Award 2025 for its Ocean Charger, a safe and efficient means of charging vessels offshore, with a proven concept for connecting, charging and handling an 11-kV high-capacity charging cable from any offshore structure to a vessel.
Shortlisted nominees were MJR Power & Automation for its offshore charging system, operational for the first time at the Nobelwind windfarm; RWE and SolarDuck’s Merganser floating solar pilot project installed in the Dutch sector of the North Sea; and GMV’s Winlet ErgoMover Go Wireless trolley used to transport equipment across gangways from SOVs to wind turbines.
Safety and innovation
Vroon Offshore Services-sponsored OSJ Safety Award 2025 was won by Flyability for its Elios 3 UT drone that conducts close-up, systematic vessel visual inspections, using a computer and LiDAR mapping.
Shortlisted nominees included International Marine Contractors Association for introducing a series of workshops dedicated to improving standards, safety and best practices in walk-to-work operations; Guidance Marine with its targetless sensor SceneScan that reduces human error and equipment interference; and Zelim for its ZOE Intelligent Detection, a man-overboard locating solution.
Damen-sponsored OSJ Dynamic Positioning Award 2025 was presented to Brunvoll for its BruCon DP Control System, which is designed for cyber-security compliance and employs the latest control system algorithms and robustness.
It beat Furlong Sensing’s Furlong Unity target-based laser system for DP positioning and DP & Marine Assurance’s vessel-assurance management system, which enables fleet managers to remotely monitor inspections, track vessel performance and access critical data.
OceanPact won the OSJ Innovation of the Year Award 2025 for its real-time monitoring platform, developed to redefine the management of critical events in offshore operations in Brazil.
