Liberian Registry has hired Norm Witt as its vice president of port state control (PSC) affairs
Commander Norm Witt, who has retired from the US Coast Guard, will be responsible for co-ordinating and building professional relationships with various PSC entities to better support Liberian Registry clients.
He intends to assist shipowners and operators through inspections or other obstacles they may face from PSC worldwide.
“I can leverage my previous US Coast Guard experience in helping clients achieve high levels of regulatory compliance, which in turn minimises shipping delays and enhances overall safety,” said Commander Witt. “Improving our safety performance on a continuous basis is a priority for everyone.”
He has 23 years of service with the US Coast Guard, including as commanding officer of the marine safety unit in Savannah, Georgia, where he held the position of captain of the port. During his tenure, he led the response and removal of capsized car carrier Golden Ray, co-ordinating an operation that involved 500 people and 70 vessels.
He also had tours in Liberia and Fiji as a coastguard officer and commercial experience in the offshore windfarm sector.
